Filmed focus attmept 2 and story board.

Okay so my first filmed focus sucked. Dont lie you know it did. So i decided to do a different one on my own to explain my idea more and also show you my story board i have drawn up as i explain my idea. I will be putting this video on facebook to get public feedback on my ideas and to gain interest and also be able to improve my idea on my audiences point of view.

Okay so this is my filmed focus. Im not very good with public speaking however i have tried to explain my idea and simply as possible whilst being very nervous. However in this video i also have public feedback and questions about my work. 

first draft planning

 

This is my first draft of planning. What i did was listen to my song and decide what scenes i would like at what times this meant that i could easily plan scene after scene and have them written down so i could develop my ideas. This is also proof that i have developed my ideas as i came up with a first rough plan.

 I have planned it out by times so i can measure what scenes will be at what times and how long they will be. This is also what i used for my first filmed focus. This also meant that i could read my ideas off the paper to be able to explain my video quickly and easily to the people around me.

Planning scenes by lyrics

So i printed off my lyrics and planned out each scene to each lyrics said and what i would like to happen in these periods of times. This way I can easily monitor time and be able to plan out scenes. I found this helpful as it means I can plan what scene to put where to fit in with the music and lyrics. This also helped me plan relative scenes for my music video as i can brainstrom ideas from my lyrics so my music video is relevant to the song and my genre.

Pixies- Website

 

 

This is the Pixies website. They have updated their website recently by having their new released video at the top of their feed. This shows they are up to date and also allows new fans to be able to hear their new releases quickly and easily and this advertises their new single and probably upcoming album. This also means that older loyal fans can get to the new song quickly and be able to find and watch the new video easily.

The font for the band name looks bold and is easily recognised as the black really contrasts with the light oranges and yellows. The font also dominates any other font as it bold and also looks misplaced as their are size differences throughout the word and this will make the band name noticeable to viewers.

The bright colours on alternatiove rock band websites are a popular code and convention as we have seen on radio heads website and 30 seconds to mars.

 

On the page if you scroll down you also see that their is a digital download available which means fans can easily and not illegally download their music from the site as they offer a direct link. Also they advertise their own band produce and we see a t-shirt being advertised with the bands name and log on. This will attract loyal fans to buy the product so they feel more involved with the band and more supportive towards the band and with their fans wearing these products their band will be further advertised as they walk around showing the band label.

 

Also new tour dates are advertised to show fans updated news of when and where they will be at certain dates so that fans can book and go seem them perform live which is an experince my target audience will enjoy as they are young energetic adults who will enjoy being independent and going to a concert to see a band and feel all hyped up and have that experience.

 

Warpaint- Website

 

This is the homepage for Warpaints website. The opening page Shows a series of collaged images that have different colour filters such as pink and black and white this adds colour and creativity to the page and also intrigues viewers as to what are the pictures of. Under the band name are links that takes you to different links and pages of the website. This is easily accessable and should be easy for their target audience to work out as they are ages 18-mid 20's.

 

The simplicity of this website also makes the website look attractive because we dont feel over powered by complications of different links and effects.We also see that they are intopuch with technoligy which shows thy are keeping up with changing technoligies to keep up to date with growing generations and wider audience range possibilities as more and more people are finding themsleves on the web using different means of technoligy to get music video or band updates.

 

I also think that the colours used in this website help attract viewers and also follow codes and conventions as a purple filter is a popular code and convention as it is shown in the nirvanna video and also Pixies video as they film their audience.

 

The font is bold and simple showing that they are a strong band and not hard to understand and this also mirrors the genre of their music as being strong and powerful instead of girly and flouncy as you would expect.

-Bright lights are used to make ups for the low key lighting.
-The setting is outside which is a popular code and convention.
-Fair ground lights are used to suggest celebrations and a good social life.
-Tiger mask is used as we see a character being shown repeatedly throughout the film wearing a tiger mask showing that maybe he is a firce character who can be a real tabby once you get to know them.
-Playing the instruments which is a popular code and convention in alternative rock videos.
-Stage performance is also shown throughout the video which means that goodwins theory can be applied to this video.

Editing:

-Overlayed scenes are used to show more than one scene at a time and create smoother transistions.
-Slow motion scenes are used to create a more dramatic effect and mirror the heaviness of the music in the song.
-HDR effects are used to cartonoonise characters and make them more noticeable.

Camera angles and Movement:

-Rolling shots used to give video more energy.
-Panning shot is used circuling ornament.
-Tilt is used up guitar neck to show sleekness of instrument.
-Close ups are used on the instruments and audeinces hands to show a clear link between fans and the music.
-Long shot is used as character sits on stage clicking to the music to show an outisde perspective into the band.

This video looks very urban and is set outisde giving the video a sense of adventure and awareness. Also this video shows direct links between music video and the song itself by creating heavy atmosphere to link with the heavy guitar and bass.

Bat For Lashes- Daniel video

Mise en scene:

- High key backlights and spot lights used.
-Dressed casually.
-Burned things such as toys.
-People dressed in black but costumes are distorted and creative.
-Strange make up. Her make up looks like obvious tears.
-Dance routine is shown around lead singer.
- She is being touched alot which is evading her personal space.

Editing:

-Sped up scenes used to give a sensitive atmosphere and make viewers look again.
-Slow motion scenes to catch audience out and look surreal and creepy.

Camera angles and movement:

-Close ups used on her face so we can recognise her as the singer and her make up.
-Slow zoom out so we can gain perspective and be more aware of surroundings as time goes on through the video.
-Low angles are used to she her legs as she struggles and as she is picked up.
-Long shots are used to make the room she is in look bigger.
-High angles are used as we look down on her to make her seem vunerable and weak.
-Mid close ups are used to show her body and and her face in decent detail.
- Tilt shots are also used down her legs and as she walks down the room so we can follow her.

I like this video as it shows her discomfort well in the video buy using the camera angles and movement they have and the shots and scenes they have used. Also i like how fire and toys were represented as it shows a slight narrative to the story and gets audiences thinking about what happened. Also the video does not look too technical and yet we see the idea of the characters and setting is creative making up for the lack of digital effects.

-Reverse scenes create surreal effect.
-Slow motion scenes to fit the genre and atmosphere of the song.

Camera angles and movement:

- Mid close ups used so we can easily recognise the artist in a deatiled shot.
-High angle panning shot as they are laid in the water.

Laura mulveys theory applies as they show their bodies in water and in a bakini when its not nessacary or fitting into their narrative.

I like the darkness of this video as i think it really represents the genre well and creates a deep overwhelming atmosphere that almost suffocates veiwers as they struggle to breathe from the claustrobic darkness.
